Gone are the days when the word Jeep represented an old army Jeep. Today Jeep is a popular vehicle make that offers various models including Jeep Cherokee; Grand Cherokee; Jeep Renegade; Jeep Compass; Jeep Wrangler; and the All-New Gladiator. Despite its popularity, Jeep is often not chosen because potential buyers mistakenly believe that maintenance is too costly. Come to Wilson Chrysler Dodge Jeep serving Columbia, SC and speak to our specialists and allow them to show you how affordable it can be to own a Jeep.

Performing regularly scheduled maintenance is the best way to keep your Jeep running smoothly and add years to its life. While some things should be done monthly, others only need to be done periodically. Here are some tips on what maintenance should be done and how often, to help South Carolina shoppers realize that Jeep service can be quite affordable.

Monthly – The following things should be checked monthly.

  • Windshield washer fluid
  • Engine oil
  • Levels of brake fluid, transmission fluid and coolant
  • Tires for wear, air pressure or damage
  • Headlights, rear lights and all interior lights

Every Six Months or 7,500 miles

Your jeep should be checked over more thoroughly at the earliest of six months or 7,500 miles. A qualified technician should inspect the following things.

  • Exhaust system
  • Brake shoes, pads, drums, rotors and hoses
  • Engine cooling system
  • Engine air cleaner
  • Battery

During this visit, the technician should rotate the tires, change the engine oil and filter, and make sure the battery terminals are tight.

Every 20,000 Miles

The frequency of this service visit will vary depending on how many miles you put on the Jeep. During this visit, the following things should be inspected.

  • Front and rear suspension
  • Air Filter
  • Brake linings
  • CV/universal joints
  • Front and rear axle fluid
  • AC System
  • Tie rod ends

Regular maintenance should not stop after the 20,000 marker. The Jeep should go to the service center every 60,000 miles as well as when it’s reached 100,000 miles. The Jeep may not need any repairs, but your technician may want to perform certain procedures such as changing spark plugs, replacing transfer case fluid, flushing the engine, changing the battery and replacing the Motor Generator Unit if needed.
